The 1970's School Concert

Over the last 8 weeks we have been practicing our end of year school concert. Each class has been given a decade from the 1920's to the future to create a play about.  This is a show that will blow you away and also give you the memories of that decade. Room 3 got given the 1970's. We have characters such as Forrest Gump, Bruce Lee, 6 million dollar man and of course disco dancing! This will be at the Auroa Community Hall on the 18th of December at 7pm if you can't come at that time come earlier at 12pm. We will also have some Christmas carols that the school will be singing for you to listen to. It will be the best night ever!

Matariki this week

We have been celebrating Matariki in the past week at Auroa school and this Friday are going to have a fun day with lots of learning and a performance by the Kapa Haka group. If you don't understand what Matariki is here is a little information:

What is Matariki?

Matariki is the Māori name for the group of stars also known as the Pleiades star cluster or the Seven Sisters.
During Matariki we celebrate our unique place in the world.

Matariki is an important time of the year for the provision of kai:

“Ngā kai a Matariki nāna i ao ake i runga.”

  “Matariki scoops up the food.”

•There are 2 translations for Matariki.

•Matariki - tiny eyes.

•Mata Ariki – Eyes of God.

When is it?

During the end of May and the beginning of June each year, Matariki rises on the north east horizon.  The same spot as the rising sun.

Pyjama Day

Last week at Auroa school was Pyjama day where the students had to come dressed in their own Pyjamas. The students had to line up and  have a parade around the school and some were picked as best dressed. Abby and Rico from room 3 was chosen as best dressed. Well done guys!
